I'm kinda disappointed in Singapore. And myself for that matter. I never really was a lion's fan, despite the fact I grew up watching soccer live at the Kallang Stadium thanks to the tickets my uncle, Malek Awab, donated to my mum. I couldn't remember much; I was only, what 5? But yesterday really changed my mindset of how the stadium has revolved around Singaporeans.
I was there when Micheal Jackson was in Singapore at performed in the stadium. Trust me, I can't remember anything but a shiny suit, smoke and a very faint moonwalk. I was there when the 'older' generation soccer boys played for Singapore. I was there for multiple National Days with my best friend, my grandmother and cousins, my mum and dad, my siblings. Sadly, I never performed at the National Stadium, only the Padang. Most recently, I saw my school soccer boys fight it out in the soccer finals for 'A' division this year against who else but RJC. Now you know why I'm so determined to bring them down in my 'A' divisions next week? The Kallang Stadium had somewhat been a part of me and I didn't realize it til recently.
To be honest, I went to Kallang to watch the fireworks. Instead, I found myself wanting to go nearer and nearer to the stadium, until I actually managed to sneak inside and see Australia score 2 glamorous goals. I wanted to be there. I wanted to be part of the 35,000 people (right?) and roar one last time. I wanted to experience the full house, the atmosphere, the tingling of your skin when you see hope that the Singapore Lions will score. Sad to say, I had combined schools training and no one to go with. Pathetic huh? Don't say my words are useless and exaggerated or cause I'm a girl and shouldn't be taken seriously. I'm as much of a sports fan as any of you out there. The only difference you guys seem to pick upon is that I'll prioritize floorball over soccer. I love soccer. Get that into your paper-thin skull. It just happens that I was attracted to floorball's speed and precision on court. Before I picked up floorball I played soccer under my block almost everyday. I never experienced my whole family going to watch a soccer game mainly cause my dad flies a lot and can't spend much time on soccer. So one more time, I LOVE SOCCER and nothing you guys say is gonna change my mind about it.
That aside, the Kallang Stadium has played a role in my life, no matter how miniscule. Especially recently when I've been facing it a lot cause of floorball training in Kallang. I'll really miss it, but I'm so looking forward to the new sports hub in 2011. One permanent standard-sized floorball court with Gerflor please? With toilet facilities that include showers and lockers and complementary soaps and shampoos. Yeah right.
Kids nowadays are so undeniably rude. I was one of the volunteers for the Milkrun 2007 held today. I was presented with the duty of distributing balloons to those little buggers. I was awarded with a kick, a chase and a grabbing fight with a girl more than half my age and spat vulgarities at. How rude huh. No thank yous, no pleases. A standard opening line will be : "I want balloon. I want _____ colour" (makes a lunge for it) What happened to basic courtesy man. The best part is, THEIR MOTHERS WERE RIGHT BEHIND THEM. For crying out loud, I think things are a little outrageous when your wittle sunshine calls someone older siao or some random bullshit word they can come up with, don't you think? I'm not asking for much you know. These bloody balloons are FREE. No charge on you whatsoever. At least give me a smile or something, don't call me siao and mothers, please step up to your kids. I know for sure I don't want my own to be calling me a slut with 10cents per f***. (sigh) kids.
Other than that, I caught up with the girls, snap snap snap photos holding huge amounts of balloons, face paint, henna. Fun, but very tiring standing all day. Met more people, walking around town with one fake eyebrow coloured red, white, yellow, blue with dabs of glitter. Getting stares causing me to trip on my feet covering my head in embarrassment.
I'm happily bitching out here. But trust me, this tongue-in-cheek episode is very random. I just realised the name I came up with for what-I-don't-want-my-children-to-call-me somewhat rhymes or has a certain jingle to it. lol.
Photos coming as soon as I get them. Happy Youth Day people. toodles~
